Course Overview

This Health and Safety in a Food Environment course has been created with food businesses in mind and will help ensure workers and customers alike are as safe as is practicably possible on your premises.

Learners will be taught about health and safety laws & obligations, best practice and how to carry out a risk assessment in a food business to eliminate or reduce the risk of harm from hazards.

This course is particularly relevant to food handlers, owner/managers and anybody involved in working in a food environment.

By completing this course you will be meeting your legal obligations and reducing the possibility of workplace accidents, improving your productivity and minimising the risk of bad publicity or legal action.

During 2014/15 611,000 injuries were reported at work and 142 workers were killed in the UK. That resulted in businesses loosing 27 working days and over £14 million in compensation costs, not including any costs and bad publicity from injuries to customers.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a legal obligation on all businesses to:

  1. Assess risks to employees, customers, partners and any other people who could be affected by their activities.
  2. Provide health and safety training and information to employee. This includes full and part time staff, permanent and temporary workers and even extends to agency staff, contractors and visitors.
