This course covers an extensive range of subjects that are necessary to understand the specific presentation of childhood diabetes and the clinical and psychological needs of different age groups of children and young people.

This course has been adapted from the SWEET Project EU for use in the UK. This course contains training to the standard of the NHS Diabetes National Curriculum for the Training of Healthcare Professionals Level 1 (March 2013) and provides a framework for future continuing professional development and lifelong learning.

Accreditation

This course has been adapted from the SWEET Project EU for use in the UK, The SWEET Project EU ran from 2008 to 2011 to improve standards of care for children and young people with diabetes. This course contains training to the standard of the NHS Diabetes National Curriculum for the Training of Healthcare Professionals Level 1 (March 2013). The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines.

  • Defining the Multidisciplinary Team and Delivery of Ambulatory Services
  • Education of Children, Young People and Carers
  • Nutrition
  • Management of Physical Activity and Exercise
  • Monitoring of Diabetes and Screening for Associated Conditions
  • Psychological Aspects
  • Young People and Transition to Adult Care
  • Surgery, Fasting and Sick Day Rules
  • Vision of the Future for Children's Diabetes Services

Target Audience

This course is suitable for all healthcare professionals that care for children and young people with diabetes and their families.

Duration

It is estimated that this module will take approximately 2.5-3.5 hours to complete (depending on learning speed). As an e-learning module you can complete this training in convenient stages and revisit whenever you wish. The system will record your progress throughout.

Certification

On completion of this course you will be able to download a Virtual College certificate.
