Solar PV Installation

Course Overview

This course is part of a 'blended' learning solution developed in partnership with NICEIC.

The course reduces the time learners need to spend away from work from 4 days to 2 days by combining:

  • e-learning resources, revision material and knowledge checks - accessible easily and flexibly, when and where you want to learn
  • 2 days at a centre for practical training, assessment and taking the online test. Upon completion of the e-learning you can contact NICEIC directly in order to arrange this

  • Accessed via the internet from your home or workplace
  • Flexible delivery - available at a time and place to suit you
  • Arranged into short bite-sized interactive e-learning modules
  • Includes revision practice test to ensure you are ready for the exam
  • Final examination, practical training and assessment taken at a centre

Level 3 award in the installation of small scale solar photovoltaic systems

This course has been developed by NICEIC in partnership with Virtual College to satisfy the EAL

Learning Outcomes

  1. Know the health and safety risks and safe systems of work associated with solar photovoltaic system installation work
  2. Know the requirements of the relevant regulations/ standards relating to practical installation, testing and commissioning activities for solar photovoltaic system installation work
  3. Know the fundamental differences between a.c and d.c circuits within solar photovoltaic systems
  4. Know the purpose of solar photovoltaic system components
  5. Know the types, silicon characteristics and typical conversion efficiencies of solar photovoltaic modules
  6. Know the fundamental design principles used to determine solar photovoltaic system module array size and position requirements.
  7. Know the preparatory work required for solar photovoltaic system installation work.
  8. Know the layouts and the requirements for installing solar photovoltaic module arrays.
  9. Know solar photovoltaic system d.c and a.c circuit installation layouts within the scope of the relevant Engineering Recommendation for grid tied systems
  10. Know solar photovoltaic system protection techniques and components
  11. Know the requirements to test and commission solar photovoltaic systems
  12. Know the requirements to handover solar photovoltaic systems

Course Details


Target Audience

This qualification is primarily aimed at those wishing to expand their business or understanding of the PV industry.

It may also be suitable for anyone requiring an understanding of the installation requirements of a small scale PV system


Duration

It is estimated that this module will take approximately 12-18 hours to complete (depending on learning speed). As an e-learning module you can complete this training in convenient stages. The system will record your progress throughout.

Certification

This unit will be assessed by a multiple choice online test covering the underpinning knowledge relating to the content and application of Level 3 award in the installation of small scale solar photovoltaic systems. This must be taken at an accredited test centre. The cost of this test is included in the course fee.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must hold a current level 3 qualification in electrical installation building and structures.
