Course Overview

Everyone in the workplace plays a vital part in fire safety, but some individuals also have a legal responsibility to consider the needs of all of the people in a work premises, and to devise an appropriate evacuation plan relevant to the type of premises, usage and people.

This course is designed to help you to arrive at plans that are practical and efficient, so that everyone in the workplace will be safer in the event of a fire and legislative requirements are met.

Having completed this e-learning course, learners should be able to:

  • Show awareness of common facts and figures about fire and its effects
  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of how fire starts and spreads
  • Explain briefly what the law says about fire safety responsibilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of how human behavior can help or hinder safe evacuation
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of fire warden responsibilities, including actions in the event of fire
  • Show clear knowledge of the factors to take into account when developing an evacuation plan
  • Carry out Personal or General Emergency Evacuation Planning (PEEPs and GEEPs)

The course also includes a downloadable checklist to help learners to apply their learning when creating and managing Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans.

Target Audience

This course is for people at work in businesses of all types and sizes who are responsible for planning evacuation in the event of a fire. It aims to provide a clear understanding of what should be taken into account to ensure safe evacuation for all staff.

Duration

The estimated duration of the course is one hour. The length of time taken depends entirely on how quickly you can study and absorb the material. You can proceed as quickly or slowly as you like.

Certification

On completion of this course you will be able to print a Fire Protection Association (FPA) certificate.

It is anticipated that learners will previously have completed an introductory fire safety awareness course.
