A hate crime is any criminal offence or incident which is perceived by the victim, or any other person as being motivated by prejudice or hate, based on a person's real or perceived race, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability or transgender identity.

Hate crimes statistics across the UK are shocking, with a total of 52,028 crimes recorded in 2009 in which the offence was motivated by prejudice. These crimes can have a far more serious psychological effect on the victims and the communities they represent than many other crimes.

As a result, this module aims to raise awareness of hate crime and hate incidents and their true extent in our communities.

Having completed this e-learning course, learners will have an increased understanding of hate crime and the impact these types of crime have on victims. Learners will also be provided with advice and guidance on how to recognise hate crime as well the appropriate actions to take when reporting hate crime.

On completion of this course learners will:

  • Identify hate crimes and hate incidents and the different categories currently recognised by the law
  • Identify the impact on the individual
